Smashing Pumpkins' frontman Billy Corgan surprised fans at a recent gig by playing the ukulele.
After going through the band's back catalogue in an 80-minute performance at the Sunset Strip club in Los Angeles, Corgan put down his guitar and picked up a ukulele for the last song of the evening, reports Spin magazine.
He told fans at the 200-person capacity venue: "I've waited a long time to play this thing."
Corgan then employed the musical instrument for a solo rendition of Love is the Sweetest Thing.
The intimate show was a warm-up gig for a 15-date tour of the US that is taking place this month.
Earlier this year, Smashing Pumpkins added a new bass guitar player to their line-up.
Former Veruca Salt bassist Nicole Fiorentino has joined the alternative-rock band as a replacement for Ginger Pooley, who left the group to spend more time with her husband and baby.
